2018 Summer Reading Information – Kids

How to Register

Registration opens June 1st! Kids’ Summer Reading: Libraries Rock! is for birth through 6th grade. Please visit this link to register. We will be using the event calendar for registration instead of Wandoo. You can register everyone in your family here, just indicate the participants age. 

Read and Bead

At any point between June 1st and August 18th you can register at the link above. Once you have registered, please stop by the library to pick up your reading log. Instead of recording minutes read for weekly prizes, registered participants can earn beads and create a statement piece that will show off your summer accomplishment. Start with a necklace chain and a brag tag, then keep adding beads all summer long as you read add to your log.

Special Programming

Waves, Sound, and Light with the Children’s Museum in Easton

Thursday, July 19th, 2:00 – 2:45pm

Ages 6-10 years, registration is required. Register here

Join The Children’s Museum in Easton’s Science on the Go! educators to learn about the science behind the music with their Waves, Sound and Light program. See, feel and hear how sound and light waves are transferred with hands-on activities that put you center stage.

 

 

Unlikely Strummers Ukelele Performance

Monday, July 9th, 7:00 – 8:00pm, Community Room

All ages, no registration required.

A great night of music for all ages. The Unlikely Strummers put on a great performance earlier this year and we are excited to have them back as part of our summer programming. Check out their video below!

 

 

Jungle Jim: 80s Rock the Library
July 12th, 2pm, Community Room
Ages 3-10, no registration required. 

Jungle Jim’s tubular balloon magic show combined with comedy, improv, and rad elements from 1980s classics makes this one righteous show you won’t want to miss!

 

 

 

Tooth Fairy Storyhour

Come learn about keeping your teeth healthy from Norfolk County Dental, get the inside scoop on the Tooth Fairy, and make a tooth pillow.

 

Rolie Polie Guacamole Family Concert

Tuesday, July 25th, 6pm, Community Room

All ages are welcome, no registration required. 

Concert featuring this award-winning “kindie” band from Brooklyn, NY. Rolie Polie Guacamole performs a high energy, interactive show that’s a mix of funk, rock and folk music mashed into original tunes about natural living, eating healthy and staying active! Co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Norfolk Recreation Department.

 

Mr. Vinny’s Puppet Show

Tuesday, August 14th, 2pm, Community Room

Ages 3-9, no registration required.

Silly and surprising and very interactive! Kids use their heads to help tell the story of “The 12 Lil’ Pigs & the Big Bad Pineapple” and play the game “What’s that Shadow?”

 

 

Animal Adventures

Thursday, August 2nd, 2:00 – 3:00pm

Ages 5-15 years, no registration required. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a caregiver. 

Join Animal Adventures of Bolton, MA to meet, learn about, and interact with eight to ten animals under the care of an Animal Adventure Guide. Animals may include a small alligator, snakes, skunk, chinchilla, ferret, sugar-glider, and different types of rabbits.

 

Giant Candy Land

Saturday, August 18th, 10:00 – 3:00

Sunday, August 19th, 12:00 – 3:00

Registration for specific time slots is required. 

You are the game pieces in this giant version of the beloved Hasbro game, Candy Land! Register a team of up to 6 for a time slot and get ready to play. Registration will open June 1st, the link will be on the library events calendar (norfolkpl.org/events). You must register a spot for each person who will be playing. Open to all ages!

Movie Nights

July 18th and August 8th , 4:00-6:00pm, Community Room, all ages are welcome, no registration required.

7/18: Coco

8/17: Moana

Come cool off and relax after a day out in the sun. Free popcorn and water will be provided. Please bring a blanket to sit on. The movie will begin promptly at 4, but you may begin arriving at 3:45 to settle in. 

 

Weekly Programming

Baby Time

Mondays, 10:15-11:00, Storyhour/craft room.

Ages 0-16 months with an adult, no registration required. 

Music and play for babies and their caregivers.

 

Tales for Goslings

Mondays, 11:15-11:45, Storyhour/craft room.

Ages 0-5 with an adult, no registration required.

An interactive program for babies, toddlers, and caregivers with music and rhymes galore!

 

 

Beach Blanket Reads

Tuesdays 11:00—11:30,  Town Hill.

Ages 0-5 with an adult, no registration required.

Bring your beach blanket to Town Hill for a fun summer storytime. If the weather is poor, storytime will be held in the storyhour/craft room.

 

Bubble Party

Wednesdays, 10:30—11:00, Town Hill.

All ages, no registration required.

Bubbles, bubbles, everywhere! Enjoy a half hour of nothing but bubbles and fun music. In the event of inclement weather the program will not be held. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library. 

 

Building Blocks Lego Club

Tuesdays, 4:00-4:45, Storyhour/craft room

Ages 5 and up, no registration required. All children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by a caregiver. 

Join us for some free building time with Legos! We’ll have bricks, baseplates, and minifigures. You can create whatever you like or build based on a theme. You may not take your creations home. 

 

Music with Miss Jenn

Thursdays (7/12, 7/19, 7/26, 8/2, 8/9, 8/16), 10:00—10:45, Community Room.

Ages 0-5 years, no registration required. 

Come have fun with this great music and movement class with Miss Jenn! Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Creative Dance

6 week series (Fridays): 7/13, 7/20, 7/27, 8/3, 8/10, and 8/17

10:15 – 11:00am, Community Room

Boys and girls ages 2-4 years, registration is required for this series. Register here. 

Children will learn the fundamentals of dance including beginner dance steps set to spirited music. The class offered by Millis Dance Theatre will focus on creative expression through open-ended movement. Caregivers do not need to stay in the room, but MUST stay in the building. Attire: comfortable clothes (leotard and ballet slippers optional)
