Maker Mondays for Adults, 11am: Come check out our Maker Lab on Monday mornings!  We’ll explore new tools or equipment and be creative together.

TUESDAY 3/22

Motion Picture Books, 11:30am: Did you know that some of your favorite movies were picture books first? Join us once a month for a reading of a picture book, followed by a screening of the movie it inspired! Feel free to bring a blanket or chairs and picnic lunch. Movie snacks and themed activities will be provided. This month’s book/movie: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett, adapted by Columbia Pictures (rated PG) This event will take place on Town Hill. Let’s Discuss Race and Incarceration, 5pm: Join us to discuss the topic of Race & Incarceration. We will be using the Living Room Conversation format for this meeting. Living Room Conversations are a conversational bridge across issues that divide and separate us. They provide an easy structure for engaging in friendly yet meaningful conversation with those with whom we may not agree. These conversations increase understanding, reveal common ground, and sometimes even allow us to discuss possible solutions. Register here

Forever Young Adults – Community Read Edition, 7pm (virtual): Young Adult (YA) books capture the vibrance, intensity, and adventure of teenhood with groundbreaking style and refreshing perspective. You’re never too old to enjoy! 3/23: Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam (as part of the Norfolk Community Read program). Register here. 

THURSDAY 3/24

Multiage Storytime, 10:30am: Join Miss Courtney for storytime fun! All ages welcome. Masks are required for everyone ages 2 and up regardless of vaccination status. Register here. 

Community Reads Book Discussion, 7pm: Join others in a discussion about our Community Read book, Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. Register here. 

FRIDAY 3/25

Knitting and Crocheting, 11am: Do you love to knit or crochet? If so, bring your yarn and knitting needles for our informal knitting group where you can work on projects, socialize, and share advice. Please note that this is not a knitting class. No instruction will be provided, although participants are usually willing to help each other if issues occur. This program will be held in the NPL’s Magazine Reading Room. No registration required.

Just Mercy Movie Screening, 1pm: Read the book Just Mercy for our Norfolk Community Read program?  Now join us to compare the movie to the book! Register here.

Norfolk Community Reads Presents the Equal Justice Initiative – Tuesday, March 29th at 7pm (virtual) As part of our Norfolk Community Read series, Alison Mollman will join us virtually to discuss EJI’s history and work on behalf of incarcerated people, as well as their racial history work and the importance of having an honest telling of our nation’s history of racial injustice from enslavement to mass incarceration today.  Register here.
